Venerdì alle 21.30 i triestini Rideouts presentano il loro nuovo cd “The Storm after the calm” al Tetris di Via della Rotonda. La band è stata fondata nel 2003 dal chitarrista Max Scherbi, si sono aggiunti poi Gianpiero De Candia al basso e Andrea D’Ostuni alla batteria. Le loro note biografiche sono state redatte da Richard Oliff della BBC (presentatore, scrittore, giornalista, produttore che ha conosciuto e lavorato con personaggi del calibro di Ringo Starr e Paul McCartney), che per descrivere la musica della band triestina tira fuori nomi come quelli di Eric Clapton e The Beatles.
«L’ho conosciuto attraverso una manager americana. Oliff è stato a contatto con tutte le star britanniche, tutti i miei idoli», spiega Scherbi che prosegue:
«Ho vissuto a Liverpool per cinque anni. È stata un’esperienza davvero positiva dal punto di vista musicale. Ho avuto la fortuna di avere a che fare con persone di grande esperienza come Stewart Boyle, chitarrista dei Bullyrag e Garry Christian dei Christians che ha lavorato con McCartney».
Qual è stato il tuo percorso musicale?
«Ho cominciato a studiare il piano e successivamente, per passione, la chitarra (da autodidatta). A vent’anni sono andato all’estero, alla mia Mecca, in quanto fan dei Beatles. A Liverpool ho perfezionato la mia tecnica e anche i miei gusti musicali, scoprendo i classici. Poi sono tornato a Trieste e ho suonato con i Tillamook, così ho avuto modo di conoscere Gianpiero De Candia e Andrea D’Ostuni che sono due ottimi musicisti».
Oltre a loro due che ti accompagnano anche dal vivo, chi altri ha partecipato al vostro cd d’esordio?
«Sono ospiti nell’album: Inko Brus al basso, Franco Ghietti che ha suonato diversi strumenti e ha anche registrato e mixato i pezzi, Jay Irving alla batteria in tre brani ed il grande violinista Davide Albanese».
Cosa hai imparato negli anni trascorsi a Liverpool?
«Lì la competizione è molto più forte, anche i gruppi di ragazzini di 14 anni che cominciano, hanno una mentalità più avanti della nostra, si rendono conto che per sfondare e crearsi un nome devono faticare molto di più degli altri. Lì ovviamente hai sempre i Beatles davanti. Quindi molti cercano di fare musica completamente diversa per non rischiare di diventare copie dei Beatles».
